Senior Network Administrator
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Cisco routers, switches, wireless access points, and firewalls across enterprise environments.
- Configure and manage Palo Alto firewalls, including security policies, VPNs, and threat prevention features.
- Lead troubleshooting of complex Layer 2/3 routing and switching issues, including protocols such as BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, HSRP, MPLS, and QoS.
- Support network services for VoIP, data center connectivity, and SDN technologies.
- Develop, document, and maintain secure network baselines, operational runbooks, and network topology diagrams.
- Perform capacity planning, performance monitoring, and network optimization.
- Research and evaluate emerging networking technologies, providing recommendations for modernization and improvements.
- Mentor junior administrators, provide knowledge transfer, and serve as a Tier 3 escalation point for network incidents.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity teams, SOC, and CSIRT to maintain compliance with federal security standards (FISMA, NIST, DISA STIGs).
- Support continuity of operations (COOP), disaster recovery (DR), and network failover testing.
- Prepare and deliver reports, metrics, and status updates to the COR and agency leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
- At least 10 years of enterprise network administration/engineering experience, or CCIE certification with equivalent depth.
- Expert knowledge of Cisco networking platforms (Catalyst, Nexus, ASA, ISR, Meraki).
- Experience configuring and managing Palo Alto firewalls and Panorama.
- Strong understanding of LAN/WAN, SDN, wireless networking, VoIP, and data center connectivity.
- Proficiency in routing and switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS).
- Demonstrated experience creating technical documentation, diagrams, and SOPs.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
- Active industry certifications such as: CCNP/CCIE (Cisco), Palo Alto PCNSE, CompTIA Network+, VMware VCP-NV.
- Prior experience supporting federal government IT networks.
- Experience with Azure/AWS/GCP networking, hybrid cloud, and VPN connectivity.
- Active security clearance (Public Trust minimum, Secret or higher preferred).
Other Requirements
- Must pass background investigation.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to work on-site in the National Capital Region, with occasional travel.
